Rimbey Hospital Acute Care
Redevelopment of a central Alberta rural hospital encompassed demolition and replacement of the 1945 Acute Care Wing with a 22-bed inpatient facility. A new 24/7 Emergency Services facility was also re-established, including a drive-through Ambulance Bay and a helicopter landing site for Air Ambulance Services. Medical Laboratory, Diagnostic Imaging, Pharmacy, LDRP Suite and Mental Health Services complemented the new construction.
The overall planning concept enhances operational flexibility and promotes patient-centered care delivered by a multidisciplinary healthcare team. An important consideration was to phase the construction in a fully functioning facility, while implementing stringent infection control measures and with only minimal disruptions to patients, residents, staff and visitors. The redevelopment of the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre became an important community event, culminating consultation process that successfully engaged multiple stakeholders. It enhanced the quality of life and services available in town and the surrounding area.
